BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Toronto Business and Professional Women’s Club deplores the building of a new, costly penitentiary for women and recommends that the Provincial Organization:
1. Petitions the Government of Ontario to seek arrangements with the Government of Canada, similar to those concluded by Newfoundland, whereby women federal prisoners can be detained in provincial institutions.
2. Urges the Canadian Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs to petition the Government of Canada to:
(a) Abolish the central penitentiary for women
(b) Seek arrangements with the other provinces similar to those concluded with Newfoundland whereby women federal prisoners may serve their sentences in institutions in their own regions.
